Welcome to Root into Writing:
A Five-Week Guided Writing
Course

“Story is powerful medicina. For most of our lives, someone else has written our narratives. Writing our stories is our soul retrieval.

Rooted where you are now, what is the new, true story you can write?

You are holding the pen. You are the poet; your life is the poem.”

—Robyn Moreno, Get Rooted

Writing is a form of channeling, conjuring, dreaming, and healing. I believe we are all writers and seers, storytellers and poets, documentarians and observers of this thing called Life. We all have stories that live inside of us.

It’s time to tell yours.

What is Root into Writing?

Root into Writing is a five-week online course designed to uncover your voice, tap into your creative well, and write your stories. We will use meditation, writing prompts, and a supportive circle to create a nourishing space to discover and explore your unique voice and the stories that are calling to be told.

Course is full, join the waitlist for our next session!

Syllabus, Spring 2025

—Week One: Coming Back Home, Writing From the Body

The world is a busy place, it’s always calling us to do more, be more. What would it feel like we pulled our energy and focus back to ourselves, our bodies, and our breath. Landing back home in our bodies, can we learn to listen to its whispers, and begin to write from our Ser—our innermost knowing.

—Week Two: Flower Songs, Writing From Nature

Once we have brought our attention back, can we look at the world around us with new eyes? Can we marvel at the budding violets in the grass and fleeting cherry blossoms? Can we notice the plumpness of the squirrels gathering acorns and sturdiness of trees standing steady as the world whizzes by? Coming back to nature can help us reveal our own natures, and the endless stories Tonantztin (Earth mother) has to offer us.

—Week Three: Giving Back to the Waters, Writing From Release

As we tap back into our creative waters, are there any things holding us back? Are there old stories lodged like rocks blocking our inspired flow?

In this session, we will visit the rivers of our imaginations, retrieving the myriad stories that sit like gems shining in the sun, and releasing what’s no longer needed back to the river.

—Week Four: Rooting into Story, Writing From the Ancestors

Every pain and triumph, hurt and healing has been felt by generations before us. But have we taken the time to turn around and see who has been pushing us forward. In this powerful session, we will call upon our good ancestors (those who we are bonded to both by blood AND by love) and write their stories. Gathering those narratives is a gathering of ourselves, and an invitation to sing the songs and tell the tales of so many who have walked before—and walk with us still.

—Week Five: Follow the Hummingbird, Walking a New Path

In our final session, we’ll come back to where we started: our hearts. Infused by weeks of writing, being in community, and basking in the beauty of our uncovered stories, we’ll center joy, wonder, and possibility in our writing. We’ll remind ourselves that writing can fun, adventurous, and transforming. We’ll write our new paths and see what mysteries and magic awaits. We’ll leave with new tools, new friends, new stories, and newfound confidence in ourselves as writers.

What To Expect

  • This is a generative course, which means that you will write every session.

  • Every session we listen to each other share our writing, which means you will have the opportunity to read your work aloud. But only if you want to!

  • We are all baby writers here (even if you are an experienced author) and we will welcome all stories with the gentle care and encouragement all early writing deserves.

  • I’ll offer homework and prompts between sessions to keep the channels open.

  • We'll have a private chat group, so we can share insights and ask questions between sessions.

  • It's okay if you have to miss a class! Each class is recorded, and replays are available until July 2, 2025. They will be made private only to the group.

  • The course is limited to 10 participants and currently full.
