"You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one"—John Lennon

Happy 2025, my friends!

I take an ongoing Spanish class with my friend Gretchen and this week we reviewed reflexive words, using the verb imaginarse (to imagine) to practice.

Me imagino que...I imagine that...

Nunce me imaginé que... I never imagined that...

And my favorite: Imagínete, which means: Imagine!

I had trouble pronouncing imagínete, so I kept repeating it like a mantra to myself:

Imagínete, Imagínete, Imagínete, Imagínete

The day after our lesson, I went to my older daughter's track meet. I was standing with another mom who was born in Peru. Our kids are in middle school but are competing at the Varsity level because they're both really good runners, and also because our school is really small.

As we were beholding the chaotic spectacle of a track and field competition and the frenzied excitement as our kids sprinted around the track, she looked at them and said my new favorite word: "Imagínete!" (Imagine!)

Her command to imagine meant so many things:

"Who would have imagined our gangly, speedy kids would be running in this big competition?!"

"Imagine how their little legs feel running next to these big kids?"

"Holy cow, this place sure is amazing and overwhelming! "

Imagínete! It exudes wonder but also a command to dream, to imagine.

The very next day I was having coffee with a friend who told me he'd become obsessed with the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. He'd been playing it for his kids, trying to get them to imagine a world more peaceful and compassionate than the one we live in now.

I laughed but wasn't surprised upon hearing the instruction to imagine for the third day in a row.

I got the message.

—I wrote a beautiful scene for a new novel. Writing fiction is miraculous & weird, the characters tell me what to do. I just have to imagine.

—I've been helping clients imagine a new path for 2025 using the Four Directions as our guide. Held by the East, West, North & South, they get to imagine something new for themselves. It's a conjuring, it's an imagining. It's a lot of fun.

—I'm trying to give myself space to imagine by not overscheduling myself to death. Because as Tricia Hersey says, "Rest makes invention and imagination accessible."

What are you imagining, my friends? World Peace? Cookies? A nap? Please let me know!

Great visions and new worlds take entwined imaginations. Here's to imagining something beautiful, healing, and soulful together!

Imagínete!

In love,

xo Robyn
